SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT
Fast forward to 2005, Kellie’s husband suffered a massive brain aneurysm and was in ICU with a grim prognosis. This is when kellie decided to return to the workforce. She interviewed at TWU for their Communication Science program and enrolled. Two years later, husband still recovering and daughter now in private school, Kellie began her career as an SLPA.
“Everyday I learn so much from my clients and I love spending my days teaching and playing!”
Kellie Kirkpatrick, SPLA, began her career in the corporate world working for Xerox as a customer service representative, and soon found herself teaching within the department. As an aficionado of The Container Store, and ready for something more ‘hands-on’, Kellie later joined their team as a visual merchandiser engaging her creative side. A year later she was offered a teaching position at a private preschool and jumped at the chance. That is where she discovered her real passion! She still in touch with many of those babies that I taught!
“Eight years later, I had my own bundle of joy and continued my career as a stay at home mom. Our daughter was a challenge from the beginning and we were soon seeking speech, occupational and physical therapy and Dallas Children’s multiple days a week. That was the beginning of a long road, seeing geneticists, neurologists and numerous other specialists for her multiple delays.”
